One of the fundamental aspects of interpreting a natal chart is understanding what profession is destined for a person. This is a significant matter, especially since we spend a considerable portion of our lives at work and earn our livelihood through it. It would be helpful to know the types of professions where we have the best chances of success, which in turn could lead to a more comfortable life.
In today’s post, I’d like to explore the significators of profession in the charts of several famous individuals: scientists, artists, and others. Who knows, dear reader, you might even find some similarities with your own chart.
It’s not difficult to guess that a strong career significator can be a planet or planets located in the first or tenth house, or possibly the VII or IV. There are a few other rules, but today I’ll focus on the most fundamental examples.
Björk

Björk Guðmundsdóttir, 21.11.1965 Reykjavík1
The career significator for Björk is Neptune in conjunction with the Ascendant. Neptune as a significator can symbolize a poet, singer, artist, or vocalist. She is definitely not a mainstream artist.
Maria Skłodowska-Curie

Maria Skłodowska-Curie, 07.11.1867 Warsaw2
In Marie Skłodowska-Curie’s horoscope, the career significator is Uranus on the Descendant. By its nature, Uranus symbolizes, among other things, technical professions related to electricity, as well as radiologists and chemists.
Margaret Thatcher

Margaret Thatcher, 13.10.1925 Grantham3
Margaret Thatcher was a strong and ruthless politician, much like Saturn, which is the significator of her profession in the horoscope. The “Iron Lady” also studied chemistry and worked as a chemist, which further correlates with her professional significator.
Antoine Becquerel

Antoine Becquerel, 15.12.1852, Paris4
Antoine Becquerel was a French physicist. In his horoscope, the career significator is Jupiter on the Descendant. This signifies an academic, scholar, scientist, lecturer, or PhD holder.
Pope John Paul II

Pope John Paul II, 18.05.1920 Wadowice, Poland5
Career significator in the horoscope of Pope John Paul II is Jupiter. A few of professions signified by this planet are clergyman and philosopher. Additionally, there is Neptune in the tenth house. It signifies the fisherman, which is very telling considering that the Pope is the head of the Catholic Church.
Lucie Bílá

Lucie Bílá, 07.04.1966 Otvovice, Czechoslovakia6
Czech artist, Lucie Bílá, has two planets signifying her career, Jupiter and Venus. It seems she made a good decision to become a singer because she is very successful, and her work is not limited only to singing, she also works in the theatre. The strong Venus in the horoscope undoubtedly supports her career.
Paul Dirac

Paul Dirac, 08.08.1902 Bristol, England7
Paul Dirac was an English mathematical and theoretical physicist. In his horoscope we can notice Uranus, Neptune and Pluto in angular houses. The strong influence of these three planets signifies visionary thinking and scientific career. Mr Dirac is considered as one of the founders of quantum mechanics.
Summary
These are just a few simple examples. Does working in a profession associated with our career significator guarantee success? No. Does working in a profession “inconsistent” with our career significator inevitably lead to failure and disappointment? Of course not. A horoscope must always be analysed as a whole, along with the conditions in which a person grew up and lives. If I were to illustrate how such a significator works, I would compare it to tools. If someone insists, they could use scissors to cut the grass, but those scissors would be much better suited for cutting out beautiful paper decorations.
One should also remember that a single planet as a significator of profession can represent a wide range of occupations. For example, Saturn can signify lab technicians but also judges or legislators. This means that many people may find “something for themselves” within such range of possibilities.
