In today’s post, I will discuss the Lord of the Year and the annual horoscope using the example of the Czech Republic. This is an extended version of my Instagram post from the past, including a more profound analysis as well as a discussion of the recent blackout in July 2025 that paralysed a large part of the country.
Cast a horoscope
Traditionally, the annual horoscope for the entire nation is determined at the moment of the Sun’s ingress into the sign of Aries. This is also the moment of the spring equinox, meaning that day and night are of equal length. From this point until the summer solstice the days will grow longer, nature awakens from its winter sleep and the period of vegetation begins. It seems quite logical to consider this moment as the beginning of the year, instead of a fake New Year’s Eve when it’s cold and dark.
In addition to the annual horoscope, a quarter horoscope may also be cast based on the Sun’s ingress into the sign of Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn. The ingress of the Sun is significant here because the Sun is associated with the king, and in ancient times the king and his position played a major role for the entire nation.
Lord of the year
We already know how to determine the horoscope for an annual prediction. Now I will explain how to identify the lord of such a horoscope, which is essential for further analysis. In short, the possible lords of such a horoscope are:
- the almuten of the Ascendant,
- the ruler of the Ascendant’s sign,
- the ruler of the exaltation in the Ascendant’s sign,
- one of the triplicity rulers of the Ascendant’s sign,
- the ruler of the Ascendant’s term,
- and finally, the ruler of the decan.
Such a ruler must have some essential dignity and be located in a cardinal (I, IV, VII, X) house, the XI or V house, or the IX house. Below you can find the horoscope of the ingress for the Czech Republic.

The almuten is the planet that has the greatest right to rule a specific point or points in the horoscope, meaning that this planet holds the most power at this particular point. The Ascendant in the last degree of Gemini is in Mercury’s domicile, in the air triplicity ruled by Mercury, Jupiter, and Saturn, in Saturn’s term and in the Sun’s decanate. Therefore, the almuten of the Ascendant in Gemini is Mercury, which rules both the sign of Gemini and the air triplicity. Thus, the possible candidates for the ruler of the horoscope are:
- Mercury as the almuten of the ASC, the ruler of the ASC, and one of the rulers of the air triplicity,
- Saturn as the ruler of the air triplicity and the term,
- Jupiter as the ruler of the air triplicity
- the Sun as the ruler of the decanate
Of all these planets, only the Sun holds some essential dignity and is located in the appropriate house. Therefore, only the Sun can be the ruler of the year in this case.
What does such a horoscope tell us?
The Sun as the lord of the year is in Aries, which is the sign of its exaltation. The Sun is in conjunction with the benefic Venus and Mercury and in an applying sextile with benefic Jupiter. So far, it looks good, but let’s look at next significators. When the Sun is the Lord of the Year, it signifies glory and pride for the head of state (formerly the king, nowadays usually the president) as well as the demonstration of usefulness and excellence along with love and devotion to divine matters as well as their abundance. The Sun enters the sign of Aries and is therefore in the sign of the fire triplicity which means that the Sun’s influence will manifest in the east. The Sun is in its exaltation sign and aspects benefic planets, placing it in a good condition which indicates military efficiency and superiority over enemies. In modern terms one could say that international politics toward eastern neighbours may be highly effective or at least no risk of war or conflicts.
Saturn symbolises the wealthy, the elderly, and farmers. In the horoscope, Saturn is peregrine, which means it lacks the strength to act. Politicians may not be interested in securing the interests of these social groups. Jupiter traditionally symbolises clergy, officials, judges, and bishops. It is in exile in the human sign of Gemini, indicating the decline of these authorities and a loss of prestige through the use of falsehood in human speech. The Sun is a significator of the wealthy and powerful citizens and is in Aries, the sign of its exaltation. However, since the Sun is always in this position in an annual horoscope, it does not determine the situation of this social group. What provides more insight is its placement in the XI house and good aspects mentioned above. It seems, therefore, that the situation of the wealthiest citizens will at least remain stable, if not even improving.
The Moon is the significator of the people. It is peregrine in Sagittarius, which as mentioned earlier indicates a lack of strength to act. Additionally, the Moon is weakened by its placement in a cadent house (VI). This suggests that the political class will not feel excessive pressure from the citizens, while the situation for the citizens themselves may worsen. It’s even possible that the authorities may make decisions contrary to the will of the people. A positive factor may be Jupiter in direct motion signals low prices for goods.
Food prices
To assess what food prices will be, the horoscope of the syzygy of the year must be cast first. Moon calendars, very popular and common nowadays, may be used for that purpose.

In the discussed case, the syzygy was a Full Moon at 14.03.2025. In the horoscope, the Moon falls in Virgo and the ruler of the ascendant in Taurus is Venus. Venus is in Aries, the sign of her exile, and she is retrograde, which highlights her lack of dignity. Venus separates from the Sun, which may herald an increase in food prices. Based on inflation rates charts, this seems to be a correct prediction1, unfortunately.
Summer solstice and blackout
In July of this year, Czech Republic experienced a nationwide power outage which paralysed public transport, work in many companies and caused hundreds of people got stuck in lifts.

Comparing the horoscope of that event to the horoscope of the Sun’s ingress into Cancer, it is easy to catch that the Moons of both horoscopes are in opposition. What’s also interesting is the Saturn conjunct Neptune on the Descendant of the blackout horoscope. Venus, the ruler of the Ascendant, is in Taurus but in a cadent house and what’s more important, conjunct Uranus responsible for sudden, unexpected and rapid breakdowns.

The Moon is a ruler of the II house in the annual horoscope and as in the chart of the summer quarter as well as in the horoscope of the Czech Republic. II house is a house of resources. The blackout started around 30 minutes after the Moon had entered the Scorpio, the sign of her fall, which may correspond with a reported sudden 30% drop in grid load3.
Autumn Equinox And Parliamentary Elections
The ascendant, in the horoscope of the autumn equinox, is in Taurus which means its ruler is Venus in Virgo – the sign of her fall; however, she is in mutual reception with Mercury in Libra which gives dignity to Venus. This is a good omen for autumn to be a prosperous time. On the other hand, the Moon in 11th degree of Libra conjunct the fixed star – Vindemiatrix which may lead to disappointments among citizens.

Later, the same month, at sunrise on parliamentary election day, the Sun (with the ascendant) conjunct the same fixed star, so there is a repeated motif. In addition, Venus – ruler of the ascendant is also in mutual reception with Mercury, but her accidental dignity is worse compared to the equinox chart – she is in the 12th house. If that wasn’t enough, the ascendant is inconjunct with the ruler – Venus, so things may go not so well during this election.

Conclusions
To sum up. As seen from this analysis, what is beneficial for the authorities and wealthiest class does not necessarily bring good things to the citizens. What should be noted is that the ascendant of the Sun ingress in a mutable sign indicates that the year may bring dynamic changes. Comparing the horoscope of the blackout with the horoscope of the Czech Republic, I am not sure if this is the horoscope cast for the right moment, but that should be investigated deeper. However, it may be difficult to find a horoscope for the Czech Republic from the very beginning of the country’s existence.
