2025 Canadian Open Finals

Last Thursday, the finals of the Canadian Open, also known as the National Bank Open presented by Rogers, took place. As usually, I am going to analyse charts cast for these two matches. Both charts have main axes in the same signs and thus the significators are the same, however, the outcome differs and I will show why.

Women’s singles

In Montreal, Victoria Mboko (Canada) and Naomi Osaka (Japan) faced each other at 6:10 p.m. EDT. According to WTA ranking, Japanese player takes a higher place2⁣, however, people were betting on Japanese player to win3 and based on that I think she is the Favourite and thus Canadian should be the Opponent. Following this, Naomi Osaka is represented by the Ascendant in the 10th degree of Capricorn and his ruler, Saturn, in the second degree of Aries. In addition, Osaka is represented by Medium Coeli which is a cusp of the X house in the 8th degree of Scorpio and its ruler Mars in the first degree of Libra. Victoria Mboko is represented by the Descendant in the 10th degree of Cancer and the Moon in the 29th degree of Capricorn as well as Imum Coeli in the 8th degree of Taurus and its ruler, Venus in the 10th degree of Cancer.

So, this is that kind of interesting chart where the Moon can’t show us the course of action because it is taken by one of the players which may seem easier to interpret the chart due to a lower number of significators compared to what we could have had however it makes an interpretation a bit more difficult because the Moon often reveals the final result. Let’s check all four significators.

First, Saturn belonging to Naomi Osaka doesn’t bring any significant information due to his placement, and his antiscion provides no meaning here either. The same applies to Mars, lord of the X house.

Next is the Moon, significator of Canadian player. She is in the first house in the same signs as the Descendant which may have been a strong testimony in favour of Naomi Osaka; however, the Moon is too far from the first house cusp and thus cannot be considered as being under control of the Favourite, so this is not a relevant factor.

The second significator belonging to Canadian, Venus in the 10th degree of Cancer, is in an exact conjunction with the Descendant which may signify victory of Victoria Mboko. Moreover, Venus makes exact conjunction with the antiscion of Lot Of Fortune.

And so it happened, Victoria Mboko won 2-1 with Naomi Osaka. So, Venus here does the job in this chart. The chart cast for this match is a little bit similar to the one below cast for the men’s singles final, but I am going to explain why it is different enough to give victory to the Favourite.

Men’s singles

Men’s singles final took place in Toronto at 7:30 p.m. EDT. The horoscope of this match is apparent. According to both ATP rankings5 and bookmakers’ odds6, the Favourite is Ben Shelton (USA) represented by the Ascendant in Capricorn and Saturn and also by Medium Coeli in Scorpio and Mars; thus the Opponent is Karen Khachanov (Russia) represented by the Descendant in Cancer and the Moon as well as Imum Coeli in Taurus and Venus.

In case of this chart, the Moon also doesn’t play a role of a significator showing the course of action since it belongs to one of the players, same as in the above horoscope. Here, the Moon – Khachanov is in the last degree of Capricorn and in the first house, which is so close to the Ascendant in the 27th degree, that Khachanov is under the power of Shelton. And this is a strong testimony in favour of American winning.

Now, let’s check what is happening with significators belonging to the American. Mars, lord of MC, in the first degree of Libra and Saturn, lord of the Ascendant, in the second degree of Aries do not seem to play any significant role in this story. They make aspects to the Moon by antiscion or bodily, e.g. the antiscion of the Moon trine Saturn or Saturn opposite Mars. But those kinds of aspects are irrelevant.

Let’s look at Venus now. She rules the IV house so she represents Russian, and she is in 10th degree of Cancer conjunct Lot Of Fortune. This is a minor testimony, not strong enough to give a victory to the Opponent but enough to get a point.

And so it happened, Ben Shelton won 2-1 with Karen Khachanov.

Both charts are very similar, but different enough to give victory to cause different outcomes.
