Mayoralty of Zohran Mamdani

With the beginning of the new calendar year, the newly elected mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, began his first term. The new mayor, also known as Mr. Cardamom or Young Cardamom, is a Democrat, so he is on the opposite side of American politics from Donald Trump. The US President, by the way, did not hide his antipathy towards the New York mayor, calling him “a 100% Communist lunatic”1. So, it seems the newly elected mayor must now face challenges of not only fulfilling his promises, which some experts believe are impossible to fulfil, but also of unsupportive federal authorities, both at the government and presidential levels. In this post, I’ll discuss Mayor Mamdani’s inauguration horoscope and how his reign is predicted to unfold according to the astrological principles.

Birth Chart

Mamdani was born in Kampala city, Uganda, on October 18th 1991. I took the horoscopic data from Astro-Databank (link in references). The Ascendant in his birth chart lays in the very first degree of imperious Leo, so it is ruled by the Sun. His Sun is in Libra in the third house, whereas his Moon sits in Aquarius in the 7th house. The cusp of his 10th house falls in Taurus, a fixed sign ruled by Venus. However, Venus dwells in Virgo where she is in fall. On the other hand, she is in conjunction with Jupiter, which is exiled in Virgo. Thus, this is not the most favourable horoscope for a future king. Based on all the above, it is clear that there is a lot of fixed quality in Mamdani’s horoscope. His temperament is sanguine. So, the new mayor is likely to act consistently and logically and his term should rather bring stability.

As mentioned in one of my previous posts, the Sun in Mamdani’s horoscope conjuncts Spica – the very beneficial fixed star which supports the 34-year-old Democrat in a reality somewhat dominated by his political opponents.

Coronation

I encountered one problem while searching for the time and date of Mamdani’s inauguration. He got sworn in twice, which is absolutely terrible situation for an astrologer. The first ceremony inaugurating his mayoralty took place on January 1st, just after midnight, when he formally started mayoralty.

The second ceremony took place in the afternoon, when Mamdani was sworn in by the senator Bernie Sanders.

So, which one should be considered for the purpose of astrological analysis? As I read on citylandnyc.org5:

[…] taking the oath is a prerequisite for exercising authority. Thus, we will see the new Mayor take the oath at midnight to ensure that he immediately assumes authority as the term begins.

Based on that, I think it is quite reasonable to consider the midnight ceremony as the formal beginning of Zohran Mamdani’s mayoralty. Now when this doubt has been dispelled, I can proceed to the most interesting part – interpreting the horoscope.

Since this a diurnal horoscope, the main factor considered will be the Moon. She in her waxing phase, which may be a positive factor. The Moon does not make an aspect to any malefic, but also does not make aspects to benefic planets, so there is nothing supporting the Moon. In addition, she is in Gemini, the 12th sign counting from Cancer – Moon’s domicile, and this is one of a few malefic lunar factors. Moreover, she is peregrine, which is another negative factor. But the Moon in this horoscope is in exact conjunction with the fixed star Aldebaran, which is considered as a royal star. This highlights a bit the royalty of this horoscope. Having said that, this may suggest the Mayor will struggle with obstacles that will be outside his jurisdiction. The Moon is also the ruler of the 10th house – the house of the office, and her condition may not be helpful for the NYC Mayor. However, there is Jupiter in the 10th house, in Cancer where he is exalted, so Mamdani has a strong planet on his side.

Let’s have a look at the ascendant in the 10th degree of Libra and its ruler – Venus in the 10th degree of Capricorn. The ascendant is in exact conjunction with the fixed star Vindemiatrix of Saturn and Mercury nature. When sitting on the ascendant, this fixed star sitting may foster one in fields such as science, trading, or architecture. In politics, however, it might not support one directly, but through strengthening intellectual capability it may be helpful. Meanwhile, Venus sits in the fourth angular house in Capricorn, where she has a dignity through the earth triplicity, which is another positive factor. What is harmful in this horoscope is Mars square the ascendant.

The accumulation of planets in the fourth house may suggest that we can expect more activity in the closing months of the Mamdani’s first term. This may be potentially caused by the change of host in the White House in 2028. With Venus in the fourth house, the term overall will be considered as good at the end.

To sum up, the horoscope for inauguration of Zohran Mamdani as a new mayor of the New York City appears quite favourable. Maybe the Moon is not in her best shape, but there are several factors making the horoscope of this mayoralty promising.
