On Wednesday, 30 IV 2025, a breakthrough occurred in the USA – Ukraine relations. The countries signed an agreement1 on the use of Ukrainian minerals, aimed at ensuring the goodwill of the United States and, as a consequence, strengthening Ukraine. The presidents of both countries had attempted to sign an agreement two months earlier, but no deal was done after unexpected heated discussion between President Zelensky and President Trump. So let’s have a look at natal charts of both presidents and try to uncover why this relationship is so rough. For the purposes of this analysis, I used information contained in Chapter 7 “Of Friends and Enemies” of Book IV of Claudius Ptolemy’s Tetrabiblos2.

Synastry
Both presidents have different temperaments, Trump is choleric whereas Zelenskyy is between sanguine and melancholic. Both react differently during negotiations, ruthless Trump demanding vs. talkative Zelenskyy trying to talk his way into a deal. Below, both horoscopes put together into one chart, so called synastry.
“In inquiries regarding matters of importance we must observe the places in both nativities which have the greatest authority, that is, those of the sun, the moon, the horoscope, and lot of fortune; for if they chance to fall in the same signs of the zodiac, of if they exchange places either all or most of them, and particularly if the horoscopic regions are about 17° apart, they bring about secure and indissoluble sympathy, unbroken by any quarrel.“

According to the above, there is no way for the sympathy between these two leaders. There are no receptions between their suns, moons and ascendants. They both have a lot of fortune ruled by Saturn, however there is no reception between their Saturns so it’s definitely not enough for friendship.
“If they chance to be situated in neither of these ways5, but merely in signs which bear an aspect to one another, if they are in trine or in sextile, they make the sympathies less […]”

It seems this is the case. Their Suns are placed in the air signs, Aquarius and Gemini, moons in the fiery signs, Leo and Sagittarius, ascendants in sextile by sign (Gemini and Leo). Their lots of fortune are in disjunction. That looks just like something, only a bit better relation than antipathy. Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy may reach a compromise because there is a little potential for it in their natal charts. However, they need proper circumstances for it. I don’t want to get into whether this compromise is good or bad for either side because it’s not the purpose of this post.

According to above, it appears that the presidents needed a transit of a beneficial planet. Below you can find synastry of Trump and Zelenskyy in transits. At that time, Jupiter was transiting Trump’s Sun and Zelenskyy’s Ascendant. In addition, the Moon was rising, which was helpful too. The conjunction of the Sun and Ascendant in synastry is, by the way, an interesting point. It looks like Zelenskyy’s Ascendant triggers something negative in Trump.
Conclusions
The two leaders are definitely not capable of forming a deep friendship with each other. Fiery choleric Trump can’t agree with sanguine-melancholic Zelenskyy. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean hostility. It’s more like a pact or a pragmatic relationship. Trump’s Ascendant in conjunction with Zelenskyy’s Saturn creates some tension in the relationship. Saturn stands his ground against Trump. On the other hand, Zelenskyy’s horizontal axis in conjunction with Trump’s Moon in eclipse brings more tension into that relationship. Under some circumstances, they can come to an agreement, but a helpful transit is needed.
